A WHITE CANDLE LOVE SPELL TO ATTRACT NEW LOVE
Here is a white candle love spell i was taught by a friend, Miriam Singer, who had it from another woman many years ago. It was given to me as a "woman's spell," possibly because of the phallic shape of the candle, but i see no reason a man could not perform it -- and in fact, since i first posted it on the web in 1994, i have heard from a number of men who have used it with success and satisfaction.
Get a white candle that will burn down in due time. You will have to inscribe it (see below), so it should be bigger than a birthday candle, and you will also have to watch it burn down to nothing (see below), so it should not be a 24 hour votive light. A plain white 4" altar candle or, better yet, a white "bride and groom" figural candle, will be right.
Prepare an altar and decorate it with those things precious to you and to the one you love. Using a rose thorn from a white rose bush, inscribe the words "All my love come to me" 3 times on the candle. Place the inscribed candle in the center of the altar and light it. For the entire time the candle burns, gaze upon it and visualize your love coming to you in nakedness and beauty. When the candle burns out, collect the wax puddle that remains, wrap it up with the mementos from the altar and keep it in a safe place.
The result of this spell will not be "zombie" or "victim" thrall-love; but you will receive ALL the love that person has for you -- which may be less than, as much as, or more than the love you have for him. Accept the degree of love you receive with grace and tenderness.
If at some future time you no longer wish to receive that person's love, dispose of the ritual remains in a simple ceremonial way. Depending on your mood, the wax puddle can be burned on a fire, buried at a crossroads, thrown into running water, mailed to him, ground to shavings and baked into a cake -- or whatever you feel is appropriate. But it is your responsibility to dispose of it if you no longer want to be loved in any degree by that person.
A LODESTONE AND RED CANDLE LOVE SPELL TO ATTRACT NEW LOVE
This is a hoodoo conjuration, and it is a little more forceful than the white candle love spell given above. It takes seven days to complete. To perform the work, you will need a pair of large lodestones (male and female if you are heterosexual; both male or both female if you are homosexual), a packet of magnetic sand, a tray or plate (not made of steel or iron), anointing oil, small personal items or paper and ink, and a red candle. A plain offertory candle will do, but the red "lovers" figural candle shown here or the red "Bride and Groom" Figural Candle shown at the top of this page are particularly appropriate for drawing a partner of the opposite sex.
Before you begin lodestone love spells, determine which ends of the lodestones draw to each other most strongly. Place the lodestones on the tray, some distance apart, with the attracting ends facing each other. Behind them and between them, forming a triangle, set up the candle.
Next, name the lodestones: one for you and one for the person you wish to attract. If you can get anything of the person's (a photo, a lock of hair, nail parings), place it beneath the person's lodestone. Place something similar of yours beneath your lodestone. If you cannot get such items, write the person's name three times in red ink on one piece of white parchment and your name three times in red ink on another piece of white parchment and place those beneath the respective lodestones. If you are already having sexual relations with the person you wish to have love you, simply personalize the lodestones by anointing them with sexual fluids: semen for a "he" stone and vaginal fluids or menstrual blood for a "she" stone.
On the first day, dress the candle with a love-drawing oil, such as Come to Me, Love Me, Follow Me Boy, or Lavender Love Drops. Sprinkle a little of the oil on each lodestone as well. Light the candle and feed the lodestones with one-seventh of the magnetic sand. Concentrate on your desires. You may also read aloud the Song of Solomon, which is in the Bible. Let the candle burn one-seventh of the way down and snuff it.
The next day, move the lodestones a little closer to each other. Again light the candle and feed the lodestones with one-seventh of the magnetic sand. Concentrate on your desires and read aloud the Song of Solomon. Let the candle burn one-seventh of the way down and snuff it.
Continue in this way for seven days until the candle is finished and the lodestones are touching and are well covered with magnetic sand.
When the ritual is done, place the lodestones, still on their tray, in a safe place where they can continue to draw to each other.
A 3-CANDLE LOVE SPELL TO ATTRACT LOVE, ROMANCE, AND PASSION
Preparation: This is a 9-day love spell that uses three candles -- white, pink, and red -- to successively attract someone, then induce romantic feelings in them, and finally engender passion. Here's what you will need:
1 White "Bride and Groom" candle or other white figural couple candleYou can also use three different oils (one for each candle) or make up a mixture from any or all of the oils.
1 Pink "Bride and Groom" candle or other pink figural couple candle
1 Red "Bride and Groom" candle or other red figural couple candle
a nail or needle to carve the candles
a saucer for the candles
a basin for water
three pieces of paper
a pencil
a black ink pen
a red ink pen.
1 bottle herb-based Love-Drawing Dressing Oil such asLove Me (general purpose lover's oil)
Follow Me Boy (used especially for female domination)
Come To Me (to draw someone closer)
Kiss Me Now! (for sex without partnership commitment)
Attraction (general attraction for love, money, friendship)
Look Me Over (used to draw sexual attention to oneself)
Lavender Love Drops (for gay or lesbian relationships)
Doing the Job: Before dawn on the first day, bathe in pure water to which you have added three drops of one or more of the oils named above. Pour the water over your head 9 times as you say, "Spirit of Love, i do this work for love and love only, that i may be loved by [name] as i myself love [him or her]. Amen." Rub upward only as you bathe and dry yourself in the air only. Collect a basin of the used bath water, which now has your essence in it. Dress in fresh clothes, carry the basin of bath-water to a crossroads and throw the water over your left shoulder toward the sunrise. Walk back home and don't look back. You are now ready to start the work.
On the 1st day, start at Sun-up. Take the first paper and write on it your full name and the one you love's full name in pencil, all in one stroke, without lifting the pencil from the paper, so that the two names form a circle and the end is joined to the beginning. Carve the full name of the person you love on the gender-appropriate side of the White Candle. Carve your full name on the other side and dress the candle with the love oil. Next, name the two sides of the candle, saying, "Spirit of Love, i name this woman [or man] [your full name] and this man [or woman] [name of lover]. As is done to this candle, may it be done to our thoughts." Place the name-paper under the candle, then dress the candle with your saliva, saying, "[Name of lover], love me as i love you. Desire me as i desire you. Come to me as i come to you. By my loving speech and tongue, be mine as i am yours." Light both wicks of the candle as you say this prayer: "Spirit of Pure Love, i burn this candle in pure love's name that i may be loved by [name] as i myself love [him or her] and that [name] will burn for my love as i burn for [his or hers]. Let our thoughts be one. Amen." Let the candle burn about 1/3 of the way, then pinch it out.
On the 2nd day, again burn the white candle at Dawn, and say the "Pure Love" candle-lighting prayer. Burn it until it is about 2/3 gone.
On the 3rd day, again light it at Dawn, say the "Pure Love" candle lighting prayer, and let it burn until it goes out, even all the way to burning the paper with your names on it.
On the 4th day, start at Noon. Write both of your names on the 2nd paper as before, but this time use black ink. Carve and dress the Pink Candle as before and name the two sides as before, saying: "Spirit of Love, i name this woman [or man] [your full name] and this man [or woman] [name of lover]. As is done to this candle, may it be done to our hearts." Then place the candle against your bare body, between your breasts if you are a woman, or at heart-level if you are a man, saying, "[Name of lover], love me as i love you. Desire me as i desire you. Come to me as i come to you. By the link between my heart and yours, be mine as i am yours." Light both wicks of the candle as you say this prayer: "Spirit of Romantic Love, i burn this candle in romantic love's name that i may be loved by [name] as i myself love [him or her] and that [name] will burn for my love as i burn for [his or hers]. Let our hearts be one. Amen." Let the candle burn about 1/3 of the way, then pinch it out.
On the 5th day, again burn the pink candle at Noon, and say the "Romantic Love" candle-lighting prayer. Burn it until it is about 2/3 gone.
On the 6th day, again light it at Noon, say the "Romantic Love" candle-lighting prayer, and let it burn until it goes out, even all the way to burning the paper with your names on it.
On the 7th day, start at Sun-down. Write both of your names on the 3rd paper as before, but this time use red ink. Dress the Red Candle. with oil as before and name the two sides, saying: "Spirit of Love, i name this woman [or man] [your full name] and this man [or woman] [name of lover]. As is done to this candle, may it be done to our bodies." Then, if you are a woman, dress the candle with menstrual blood or sexual fluid; if a man, dress it with semen, saying, "[Name of lover], love me as i love you. Desire me as i desire you. Come to me as i come to you. By the nectar of my body, be mine as i am yours." Light both wicks of the candle as you say this prayer: "Spirit of Passionate Love, i burn this candle in passionate love's name that i may be loved by [name] as i myself love [him or her] and that [name] will burn for my love as i burn for [his or hers]. Let our bodies be one. Amen."
On the 8th day, again burn the red candle at Sunset, and say the "Passionate Love" candle-lighting prayer. Burn it until it is about 2/3 gone.
On the 9th day, again light it at Sunset, say the "Passionate Love" candle-lighting prayer, and let it burn until it goes out, even all the way to burning the paper with your names on it. As the red candle burns to the end, again bathe in pure water to which you have added 3 drops of one or more of the oils named above. Pour the water over your head 9 times as you say, "Spirit of Love, i have done this work for love and love only, that i may be loved by [name] as i myself love [him or her]. My love is mine! Amen!" Set aside a basin of the bath-water.
The next morning, sprinkle some of the bath water at your loved one's door step to mark it and then sprinkle as you walk to your door and mark it also. When you go to see the one you love, wear one of the love oils. If you write to him, dress the letter with love oil.
Cleaning Up: Wrap up any left-over candle wax in a red cloth. Secure it with red thread, tie it, and bury it in your back yard.
DRESSED LETTER LOVE SPELLS TO ATTRACT LOVE FROM AFAR
First, let me start by saying that in my experience it is easier and more often successful to attract an UNKNOWN lover or mate than it is to get a long-lost lover to return from an unknown place, to turn a casual acquaintance into a lover by long distance, or to attract the attention of a specific far-away person with whom one has no personal link at all.
Ask yourself, is your request realistic? (You might be surprised how often people request love spells to sexually attract a celebrity -- someone they may have only seen once at an autograph session!) Specifically, ask yourself, if you do manage to reach this person through preturnatural means, will he or she know how to contact you in return? Does the person you desire have your telephone number, email address, or street address? Do you have friends in common who could pass a message?
If not, all you may be doing by working attraction love spells from afar is inflicting a "dream love" on the object of your affections. He or she may dream or day-dream about you but, not be able to contact you. Possibly, not even knowing your name or if you are real person or a figment of the imagination, he or she will chalk the whole attraction experience up to "strange ideas" and the two of you will never meet in person. I personally have had numerous "love-dreams" in which i met and made love with total strangers. Were they men who had read my books or web pages and were trying to contact me from afar? I'll never know! They seemed to be "real people," but i never have met them in the flesh.
The same goes for people i used to know -- i have dreamed quite wonderfully of men i liked years ago in school, renewing our friendships, even becoming lovers in these dreams -- but i have no idea where they live now, or how to contact them. If they were working love spells on me, they left out an important factor: i got the "message," but i could not figure out a way to get in touch with them in return.
Okay, so let us assume that you DO know where the person you desire lives, that he or she knows where you live, that the two of you have some sort of established form of prior communication, and that he or she actually opens and touches his or her personal mail. In that case, it is indeed possible to work love spells to attract and draw him or her closer from afar. Use one of the love spells described above, such as the lodestone and candle love spell or the 3-candle love spell and augment its strength by following it immediately with this love spell, in which you send the person a dressed letter.
Assemble the following items:
a love-drawing herbal or mineral bath formulaLike most love spells, this one is best worked in the early morning before dawn, because it finishes at sunrise. Those who take the moon's position into account may wish to perform it as the moon is waxing or growing in size, because it is a spell for increase. Some women may prefer to perform it on the first day of their menstrual cycle, regardless of the moon's position. Those who work by the days of the week may prefer to perform it on a Friday, as that is the day sacred to Venus, the goddess of love. The choice is yours.(e.g. Love Herbs, Follow Me Boy Bath Crystals, Come To Me Bath Crystals, Attraction Bath Crystals, LoveMe Bath Crystals, etc.)a love drawing candle
(e.g. a Bolivian couple candle, lovers candle, genitalia candle, or whatever you choose) a love-drawing dressing oil for the candle
(e.g. Follow Me Boy Oil, Come To Me Oil, Attraction Oil, Love Me Oil, Fast Luck Oil, etc. a love-drawing incense
(e.g. Love Herbs to burn on charcoal, Follow Me Boy Incense, Come To Me Incense, AttractionIncense, Love Me Incense, etc. writing implements
a pen, a piece of stationery, a matching envelope, and a stamp a small basin to contain some of your used bath-water
Prepare the bath according to its directions or your common sense. Dress the candle, light it, and light the incense. With no other light than that from your love-candle, bathe in the love-drawing bath and save some of the bath-water containing your personal essence in the basin. Place the basin next to the candle.
While still naked from your bath, and still with no other light than that from your oil-dressed love-candle, write the person you desire a sincere letter. Sprinkle the paper with a love-drawing sachet powder, then draw your fingernails down the paper in wavy "snake lines" to mark it. Shake the paper to let the powder fall away and set it aside. Address the envelope, dress it with sachet, mark it with "snake lines, shake it clean, and set it aside too.
Next, formulate your specific desire, by which i mean get it very clear in your mind exactly what you want -- for instance, that the person contacts you, falls in love with you, visits you, has sex with you, marries you, raises a family with you, and/or spends his or her life with you. Once you have formulated your specific desire, focus the entirety of your WILL upon achieving the result you wish to accomplish.
Then arouse yourself sexually by thinking of the person you want, and at the moment of orgasm, silently voice your COMMAND that the person must come to you and fulfill the conditions that you have willed.
Immediately after, physically relax into a receptive posture and ACCEPT that as you asked, so shall it be done.
After the moment of reverie and acceptance, touch each of the four corners of the letter with a bit of your sexual fluids. Place the letter in the envelope and touch each of the four corners of the envelope with your sexual fluids. Seal the envelope with a streak of your bath water and use the bath-water to affix the stamp as well.
At dawn, dress in clean clothes. Carry the remaining bath water to a crossroads, throw it over your left shoulder toward the rising sun, and walk back home without looking back. Mail the letter at once -- if you can mail it on your way home from the crossroads, so much the better.
In case you are curious about this love spell, the letter-dressing itself is based in hoodoo, but the three-part sequence of deploying one's will, command, and acceptance during a cycle of sexual arousal is a method of working taught by the 19th century African-American sex-magician Paschal Beverly Randolph, under the names "volantia," "decretism," and "posism". Volantia was Randolph's term for using volition or will to silently focus one's full consciousness upon a desired result; by decretism he meant making a decree or command at the moment of orgasm; and posism he described as relaxing into a receptive physical posture or pose after orgasm and gratefully accepting that what you have willed and decreed has come to pass.
"LOVE ME OR DIE": A JACK BALL TO GOOFER A MAN FOR LOVE
This is a conjure hand for coercive love that was related to me by a 50-55 year old woman customer in a candle store on Maxwell Street in Chicago in 1965:
She said, "If you want a man to love you and he absolutely refuses, you can goofer him to love you -- you know, make him *sick* to love you." Here is her recipe.
You will need:
his hairOn the paper, write his full name 7 times in black ink, then rotate the paper and write LOVE ME OR DIE over his name 7 times in red ink, crossing it and covering it. Set the paper aside.
your hair
a small John the Conqueror root
Goofer Dust (or Graveyard Dirt)
Love Me sachet powder
a piece of brown paper (torn on all four sides from a paper bag)
a waterproof ink pen that writes red
a waterproof ink pen that writes black
a brand new spool of red sewing thread
a red flannel bag
a sharp pen knife
Use the pen knife to carve a slit-shaped hole in the root and wedge your hair and his hair in there together. Then pack the slit tight with a mixture of Goofer Dust and Love Me sachet powder. Thoroughly wet the written-on paper with your urine and wrap it around the root, pressing and forming it as you would papier mache, to keep the hairs and powders inside. While it is still wet, wrap it up in the red thread, going round and around very neatly, like a ball of twine, until the paper is entirely covered. When you are done, tie the thread off with seven knots and leave a length of thread to hang it from. You can double or triple the hanging-thread for strength, and finish it with a loop for your finger.
Carry the prepared root in a red flannel bag and moisten it with your urine when needed. Hold it by its hanging-thread to "operate" it, swinging it back and forth or round and around toward you as you call the man's name, to draw him to you. Get a rhythm going, and say his name, like this, over and over: "[First Name, Last Name], love me or die; [First Name, Last Name], love me or die; [First Name, Last Name], love me or die."
"You do this," the woman told me, "and the man will either love you or he'll get real sick. If he gets sick, don't let up; just keep your urine wet on that thing, just keep working with it. That's the way you get him, you weaken him. When he is about finished, you can nurse him back to health. Then he's all yours."
I have never tried such coercive love spells myself. I am too tender-hearted and also have had too many offers of love from willing men to bother to mess with men who were recalcitrant. I recommend that anyone who undertakes making such a "Love Me or Die" hand should be prepared to properly dispose of it if it is successful, or you may always have a sickly man on your hands.
The making of this love spell is an exercise in working with pairs of opposites: The Love powder is mixed with Goofer Dust. The John root is male (looks like a testicle) and you cut a slit-like hole (a symbolic "pussy") in it to make him less strong and masculine, what they call "pussy whipped". You mix your hair and his hair up together, so he will be as obsessed as you are. You offer him the choice "Love me or die." When he gets sick, you nurse him back to health. The whole thing is about mixing opposing pairs -- male/female, love/death, sickness/health, him/you -- into one mess.
By the way, the specific shape of this mojo hand -- a round object wound around with thread or string -- is sometimes referred to as a Jack or Jack ball, although my informant did not call it by that name. Most Jacks, hung from their strings, are used for divination, like pendulums, but some are carried in the pocket or in a bag, as a hand.
The name Jack ball probably originally referred to the little rubber balls used for playing the children's game of Jacks, which used to be made of wound-up red rubber strings. Not all Jacks have a John the Conqueror root at their center, but since Jack is the diminutive form of John, if any Jack has a right to that name, this one does.
GRAVEYARD DIRT LOVE SPELLS FOR ATTRACTION
In 1998, Dana (missdanaj@geocities.com) posted this love spell to usenet:
You need green paper, vandal root, and dirt from a graveyard. You write your name and the guy's name on the paper, put the vandal root and graveyard dirt in the center of the paper, wrap it up and leave it under your bed.Miss Dana's post provoked long discussions in usenet concerning why someone would use Graveyard Dirt in a love spell, so i'd like to add some commentary:I got this spell from a spell book published by Baron Blanc in Sydney, Australia. Please understand that (in the book's words) "it is one of the most powerful love spells and should be undertaken only after other love spells have failed. Not for the faint hearted."
I myself have never used Graveyard Dirt love spells, but i can tell you that they do have quite a bit of historical basis behind they and there are people who say that such love spells have worked for them. The trouble is, the spell as related in Miss Dana's book just calls for any old Graveyard Dirt, and the way i was taught, that is not quite right.
The man who gave me my version of the Graveyard Dirt Love Spell -- and he was no "Baron" from Australia, but an African-American candle store owner in Oakland, California, back in the 1960s -- said to use the dirt from the grave of someone who had loved you in life. He said, "Your grandmother, mother, father; your lover, husband, or wife who passed on before you -- you get dirt from THEIR grave only, and not from anywhere on the grave either, but from over the HEART."
When i told him that all my relatives who had died were buried far away and i could not get to their graves, he said, "Everybody has had at least ONE person to love them, even if it was just a little yellow spotted dog." I told him i had once had a cat who loved me and that i knew where she was buried. "Then you can use the dirt from her grave," he said. I never did it, though.
The idea behind Graveyard Dirt Love Spells is that the dead one who loved you will work on the live one who does not love you yet, and will set their mind to thinking of you. That's why you want the dirt from over the heart of one who loved you -- you want their spirit on your side, working on the mind of the one you love.
The vandal root called for in one version of this love spell is a root with alleged powers to aid in establishing contact with the dead and it is said to create spiritual contacts with the other world. This reinforces the idea that the Graveyard Dirt should be from a grave that holds meaning for you, not just any old grave.
In the 1930s, Harry M. Hyatt collected information about hoodoo from 1,600 African-American informants, and one of them gave him a variation of the Graveyard Dirt Love Spells. It is simpler than Baron Blanc's version, in that it does not include the Vandal Root, but it is also much more direct because rather than hide the materials under your bed, as Baron Blanc suggests, you sprinkle the Graveyard Dirt on yourself when you go to be near the one whom you wish to attract. This is the way i was told to do it, too.
You can find the 1930s version of the spell collected by Harry M. Hyatt -- in the informant's own words -- on my web page about Goofer Dust. It is spell #659, but i suggest that you read the entire page first; don't just skip to that part.
Incidentally, the person who gave this love spell to Hyatt noted that it only works as long as you keep using the Graveyard Dirt. In other words, it only works while the spirit of the dead person is helping you. A more coercive love spell using Goofer Dust or Graveyard Dirt to force a person to love you is called "Love Me or Die" -- and it does not specify that the dirt must come from the grave of a loved one.
I believe that the origin of these love spells lies in African religious beliefs about the dead, especially those that came from the Congo, where contact with the spirits of the dead is strongly emphasized and their help is sought on behalf of the living.
So, you see, these are very unusual love spells. They are for a certain kind of love, and they are not magic spells that everyone could or should use, but they do have a long and legitimate history in African-American folk-magic.
LODESTONE CHARMS AND LOVE SPELLS TO MAINTAIN FAITHFUL LOVE
One of my favourite fidelity talismans comes from the Quechua people of Bolivia and Peru -- this is the munaiwarmi (woman's love) stone, around which hair from each of the lovers is tied to maintain faithfulness over long distances.
Another fidelity talisman, from a different culture, is a form of African-American mojo bag. This will ensure continued sexual attraction during absences; it can be made by one person, but i like the idea of making its creation a ritual for two partners as described below:
You will need a pair of lodestones (male and female if you are heterosexual; both male or both female if you are homosexual), a packet of magnetic sand, anointing oil, and two red flannel mojo bags.
Select two small lodestones that make a good "pair" -- when positioned head to tail they should attract strongly and share a snug surface in common. Place them together, feed them with magnetic sand to give them a "hairy" coating, and anoint them with any of the various hoodoo oils that relate to faithful love (like "Love Me" oil). For extra power, you can also anoint them with your conjoined semen and menstrual blood. Say a prayer for the continuation of your love over long distances. Gently separate the lodestones, keeping as much magnetic sand on them as possible, and place one in each bag. Tie the bags shut and each keep one while you are apart. They will draw you back together again.
When the two of you are reunited, complete the love spell ritual by taking the lodestones out and reuniting them, head to tail. Dress them with anointing oil and with your bodily fluids if desired, then feed them with more magnetic sand. Thereafter you may keep the lodestones in a bowl on your altar or you may bury them together in the Earth.
6 LOVE SPELLS AND CHARMS TO CELEBRATE MARITAL COMMITMENT
1) Chinese Sexual Alchemy
First, i humbly recommend a perusal of the karezza and Sacred Sex site that i have written, with particular reference to the page titled Tantric Partnership, which contains some interesting ideas from Mediaeval Chinese Sexual Alchemy for how to maintain a spiritually committed relationship.
2) Candle Magic
As far as traditional hoodoo herb-, oil-, and candle-magic for cementing a committed passionate relationship goes, i can suggest the following, from personal (satisfied) experience:
Burn Bride-and-Groom candles dressed with Stay With Me Oil or Love Me Oil; if passion is the paramount goal, burn a Lovers' candle dressed with the same oils.
3) Inscribed Amulets
Consider making inscribed and sigilized amulets for one another. My husband and i did this a year before our marriage. We used empty amulet tubes (metal hollow pendants) from Afghanistan. We each wrote out our promise and wish for the other on a small piece of paper, dated it, and sigilized it with our sexual fluids, then inserted the paper into an amulet tube and exchanged tubes so that each kept the other's vow and wish. The containers need not be amulet tubes or pendants, of course; you could use a tiny "wish box" or any sort of container, including a pair of small sea shells.
4) Dressed Lodestones
Another thing we did was to perform the a lodestone fidelity charm love spell given above, feeding a pair of matched lodestones with magnetic sand and sigilizing them with our sexual fluids and hair and name-papers in the hoodoo tradition. The only difference between that love spell as given and what we did was that we performed the spell as a couple. We keep our dressed lodestones together in a covered candy dish on an altar ("the Bird Altar" -- so called because it contains a lot of images of birds, including Hummingbirds) in our bedroom, at the northern wall. We renew the spell by performing it once a year, at the Winter Solstice. For the significance of the northern wall in "bedroom" workings, see the page on Chinese Sexual Alchemy mentioned above.
5) The Hummingbird Incantation
The Hummingbird is the creator god of the Pomo Indians, the tribe that first occupied the region where i live in California. Yearly Hummingbird dances are held a few miles from my home. The Hummingbird parts are danced by teenaged boys with flutes, the flower parts are danced by teenaged girls. The form of the dance is a line dance by the girls, and the boys circle them and approach them each in turn, as Hummingbirds approach flowers. This indigenous veneration of the Hummingbird as a deity with sexual and love harbinger overtones extends all down the Pacific coast and into what is now Mexico, where it can be found in the form of reverence for La Chuparosa (the Rose-Sucker in Spanish). In Mayan Mexican folk magic, the Hummingbird is also the symbol of -- and again, actually the ancient deity of -- love, sex, and marriage.
Here is a contemporary incantatory love
spell taken from a Mexican votive candle that, beneath its
veil of Catholic formality, literally calls upon the
indigenous Divine Hummingbird for a blessing on love. I
shall give it both in Spanish and in English translation;
note that the word "chupa" can be translated as "suck out"
or "extract" and is used as a reference to the bird's name
(Chuparosa) and as a magical instruction to the bird.
Al Poder de la Chuparosa
The Power of the Hummingbird
Divina Chupparosa,
tu que por el Poder divino
endulzas y alegras las cosas
quiero que endulces
mi vida y alegres mi corazon
ya que por tu divina intercession
he de venecar a mi amado(a)
y solo sea para mi
Divine Hummingbird,
who enriches and glorifies
everything with your Holy Power,
I ask that you enrich my life and love
with your Divine Intercession
so that my lover
will want only me
y asi como chupas la miel de las flores,
chupa la sal y mala suerte que tengo,
y asi en todo vencer,
in the same way that you extract honey from flowers,
extract all misfortune and bad luck
from my life;
novenario te he de hacer,
para que tu no me divides y me traigas
al ser amado fiel y lleno de amor.
i pray you will not forget me,
so that my lover and i may share a relationship
that is honest and true
6) Quechua and Aymara Charms
Finally, either the Munachi charm or Munaiwarmi charm made by the Aymara and Quechua Indians of Peru and Bolivia may be just the ticket for those working eclectic love spells. These are small amulets carved of soapstone or cast in terra cotta. They are activated by tying the hairs of the lovers into the amulet and by sigilizing with sexual fluids.
The Munachi charm is for heightened sexual passion and depicts a copulating couple. We keep one on the small sex-altar at the head of our bed. The Munaiwarmi charm is for fidelity and depicts a clothed couple embracing as they stand side by side.
Pictures of both of these charms with full instructions -- plus similar information about the related Illas charm for the sexual well-being of farm animals -- can be found on their respective Lucky W Amulet Archive web pages. We keep a cross-cultural form of the Illas charm on our sex-altar; it is a Japanese netsuke carved from a tagua-nut depicting two little mice curled up together. It serves to remind us of the oxytocin-fueled pair-bonding enjoyed by sexually excited Prairie Voles.
HOODOOING A MAN'S (or Woman's) NATURE
Coercive love spells of sexual fidelity are mentioned often in the African-American conjure tradition -- so often that there is a name for the entire class of such love spells. They are called "hoodooing a man's [or woman's] nature." They come in two types:
1) Hoodooing a partner's sexual nature so that he or she is sexually faithful -- the effect is to render the victim uninterested sexually in others or, if interested, unable to complete the sex act (e.g. due to erectile dysfunction, anorgasmia, etc.). Typical love spells of this sort are the "nation sack" and a knot spell called "tying his [or her] nature." A regionally famous magic spell from Texas that accomplishes this work is called "The Blue Penis Spell" and it utilizes a blue figural candle in the form of male genitalia. (A "Blue Vulva" spell using a similar candle shaped like female genitalia is also possible, but far less common in actual practice.) If the couple breaks up and the spouse does not dispose of the nation sack or knotted string, or take off the "Blue Penis" spell, the person whose nature was hoodood will thenceforward be unable to have a normal sex life with a new partner due to the old spell in which his or her sexuality was controlled by the ex-partner. Coercive love spells like these can be taken off, however, and there are numerous ways to do so.
2) Hoodooing an ex-partner's or enemy's nature so that he or she will be sexually impotent or never be loved again -- these are spells of revenge or hostility, in other words, a jinx, crossing, or goofering spell. The symptoms may appear similar to the former type, but a sexual revenge spell is easier to take off, according to accounts by root workers. The usual counter-spell is a regular jinx-removal or uncrossing spell.
In category (1) above, there are several names and working variations. These coercive love spells have been collected in oral tradition in dozens of forms from all over the South. The purpose of them is to prevent a man from having an erection or an orgasm with another woman. They are most often called "hoodooing a man's nature" ("nature" is a euphemism for "virility"). Other names for these love spells are "measuring the man," "tying up his nature," and, in one form, "The Blue Penis spell" (so called after a blue candle burned in that version of the spell).
Here, in rough outline, is how it works:
Before going to bed with the man, the woman gets herself a length of ordinary soft white cotton string and hides it in the bedclothes. While the man is hard, she takes the measure of his penis with the string or with her finger, which measurement she transfers to the string. After they have sex, she smears some of his ejaculate on the string. (This can be done in the bed or in the bathroom.) If possible, she should not have an orgasm during the love-making that leads to this spell, because she might lose herself in pleasure and get careless, and risk being "tied" herself. She also steals a few of the man's pubic hairs or underarm hairs, or, failing that, his head hairs. (Alternatively, she should also get some ejaculate on a clean white handkerchief cloth. She should be very careful to get none of her own vaginal juices on the cloth.)
When the man falls a asleep after sex, she takes the string and ties nine knots in it (some say seven knots). The knots are made starting from the center and working outward, alternating left and right sides until the ends are reached. Each knot must be activated as follows:
She forms the knot but does not pull it tight. When it is ready, she calls the man's name and at the moment that he answers, be it with a word or a sound, she pulls the knot tight. She must then make an excuse to him, explaining why she called him. It is the difficulty of making these excuses, i believe, that has led many women to recommend making the nine (or seven) knots on separate occasions, tying one knot each time with fresh semen.
Once the string is fully knotted, some women wrap it up with the man's hairs in the semen-wetted cloth, making a packet. With or without the cloth and the hairs, the woman keeps the knot spell on her. She may put it in a red flannel mojo bag and wear the bag always, under her skirt or pinned to her panties, anywhere beneath her waist. She may piece the knotted string out with another piece of string and wear it tied around her waist. She may even thread it into a self-covered fabric belt and wear it thus amongst her clothing. When she is not wearing it, she must keep it in a locked box or trunk. The man must not see it or touch it. From then on he will be hoodood and will not be able to get hard with any other woman but her, and the only way for him to get this condition off is to undertake a lengthy uncrossing spell -- or to steal back the knotted string and untie the knots himself.
The Blue Penis Candle Spell uses a candle as an adjunct to the knot spell: The candle is carved with the man's name and a command such as "Don't get hard with anyone but me!" It is then dressed with an oil like Stay With Me or Follow Me Boy or Commanding (or all three). The knotted string is coiled around its base while it is burned in seven segments over seven days. The knot maybe burned with the candle or, as some people work it, when the candle is done, the woman puts the cord in her mojo bag as described above.
Another way to do the Blue Penis Candle Spell is to collect the semen on seven occasions as described above, and to burn one portion of the blue penis candle after each collection of semen and knot-tying, keeping the string coiled around the base of the candle when it is not required in the bed for more semen collection. In the end, there will be seven knots tied in the string and the blue penis candle will have burned in seven portions, although not necessarily on seven successive days. The string is then kept in a mojo bag, as before, or burned with the candle.
In category (2) above, if the woman gets angry at the man and wants to really do a number on him and ruin his nature, she can use the knotted thread as part of a wicked candle-burning job. She gets a Black Penis candle and warms it up, then presses the string into the softened wax the same way it went on the man. She anoints the candle with Crossing Oil and sprinkles it well with Goofer Dust (a mixture of graveyard dust, red pepper, and herbs). Then she lights both the wick and the string and lets them burn to the bottom, knotted cord and all. That is a severely coercive love spell.
As i said at the outset, there are many variations of "taking a man's measure" or "tying his nature" -- but those are a few of the best-known.
A RECONCILIATION RITUAL FOR ESTRANGED FRIENDS OR LOVERS
A couple of years ago i had a terrible falling out with a friend-lover with whom i had been very close for more than 25 years. Despite several attempts on both of our parts to reconcile, the unkind words that had been spoken and the disastrous events that had transpired between us were impossible for either of us to forgive. (Neither he nor i are the kind to forget, so that was never an issue.) Each of us was right in our own way, and each of us had a list of grievances against the other.
For two years we tried making formal statements of apology and forgiveness and promising to never mention the precipitating events again, but no matter what we vowed, one or the other of us would eventually bring up issues of "betrayal" or "lack of trust" and the relationship would unravel again. The problem was that although we still WANTED to be friends, we just didn't know how.
To put a final end to the rift between us, we performed a simple little ritual. We bought a red figurative candle from Bolivia that depicted a man and a woman in 19th century clothes standing arm in arm with wicks coming from their heads. We sat on the floor with the candle between us and sprinkled Reconciliation Powder on each other and on the candle. Then we lit the candle wicks (he lit mine and i lit his) and silently held hands while the candle burned. This ritual worked wonders. Our relationship became harmonious once again and we no longer fretted about those two "lost years" of strife.
BLESSING FOR A FAMILY ABOUT TO HAVE A NEW BABY
Get a pair of Adam and Eve candles for you and your partner. Add a smaller candle for each child already in the family. Name and bless each candle, carving the name of the person on each.
Now fix the Eve candle with a "baby bump." Form a small ball of white wax and adhere it to the Eve candle's belly area by dripping on some more white wax to make her look pregnant. Dress all four candles with Blessing Oil and herbs sacred to motherhood and health, such as Motherwort, Angelica Powder, and Flax Seed.
Then draw a line arround the family of candles with Blessing sachet powder. Speak aloud your prayer for a successful outcome to the situation and light all four candles. Let them burn straight through.
